If you’re one of the parents of a semi-naughty to an all-the-way wicked child, then here’s your forewarning: DO NOT FORGET Teacher Appreciation Week this coming May 3rd.
There is nothing more awkward than showing up to pick up/drop off your kid at school/preschool, where you find your child’s teacher proudly displaying a desk full of gifts and treats. While you try to sneak away unnoticed, your child (who normally mumbles everything) will somehow manage to ask as loudly and as clearly as possible, “Mommy, did we bring a gift for Ms. So-and-So?” By now, all eyes are directed toward you and your empty hands. While the teacher offers you a gentle forgiving simile, both you and she know your child is a savage—one of the baddest, most disruptive, hand-fulls in the class—so the least you could do was muster up a free doughnut and a coffee.
While you can’t take back your child’s classroom behavior, you can offer some sort of repentance for that behavior with a Teacher Appreciation Day gift. It doesn’t make up for all the torment your little hellion has inflected on that teacher, but it does say, “Thank you and I appreciate you for not locking my child in the broom closet during recess.”
Here are a few meaningful Teacher Appreciation gift ideas from around Twitter, which both states your gratitude but doesn’t break the bank.
DIY Craft Project
Craft projects are thoughtful because they involve your time and energy. Plus, they give an opportunity for your child to get involved too—after all your child is the reason why you feel the extra pressure to make amends anyway.

Candy or Sweets
Your daughter might be your little sweetie, but she could be a classroom terror! If you suspect your child is leaving a sour tastes in her teacher’s mouth Monday to Friday, try giving a gift that lingers on the tongue a little better. Candy, cakes and cookies might do the trick.

Gift Card
The trusty gift card can always save the day. If you have no time to think of something more personal or creative, then hit the gift card rack. Your child’s teacher will be grateful for any dollar amount you assign on it as it validates her patience. Plus, she could use the gift card to invest in after work stress reliefs like reading, yoga, music or liquor.

Okay, just kidding, we’re sure your child is an angel at school (most of the times), but it doesn’t hurt to show our teachers some appreciation anyway. We should all value their contribution to our children’s education even if it’s just for one day a year.
