When the US government closed its doors millions of lives were affected. Thank goodness they have reopened for business. However, you can be sure that this challenge, will not be the last challenge you face in life. There will be others. Don’t let the challenge conquer you or your family.
Protect your relationships even in times of challenge.
Whether it’s the Government Shutdown, an ill child or parent, or loss of income, challenges can rob you of peace if you let it. Here are three ways to help maintain your peace as you move through times of challenge.
1. Remember Who Your Source Is.
If you believe in a power higher than yourself, this is a time when reliance has to move from a self effort to a God effort. Many Americans believe in a power outside and higher than themselves. If this is your case, realize that there is a source higher than your job and your circumstance.
2. Don’t Become Anxious.
It sounds easier said than done, but it is possible, I know this firsthand. There was a time when the funding from our largest contract was cut to a third. [They cut the money but not the work, the workload remained the same]. Just like you, our bills and obligations did not change because the contract changed. This went on for 8 months. For our sanity, we had to keep anxiety at bay. Anxiousness can lead to worry, short tempers, impatience, and depression, which hurts you and your relationships. Ward off anxiousness by living in the moment of today, doing the best you can today, while planning for the future.
3. Be Grateful.
Every day may not be the way you planned. Yet, if you change how you view things or where you place your focus, you will begin to see areas where you can be grateful even in uncertain times. I once heard a lady say when the lights were cut off for nonpayment she simply made a candlelight dinner for her family and remained grateful that they were together. There are many other examples, if you have to cut the cable TV off, use that television time to play family games or read a book. If you are facing taking care of your parents be grateful you have this opportunity; many people wish their parents were still around.
These three steps are not a cure all, but a way to help you maintain your peace of mind as you face challenges that come your way.
