Love can be an amazing thing. Love is that four letter word that we have as a priority in our relationships. But there are some things about love that we may not know. It is different for men and women. How do you fall in love? Is it just as easy to fall out of love as it is to fall in love? Pay close attention to the following four points of love that you may not know about.
#1 – Love Has to Be in You
You can’t love anyone unless you’ve been loved by someone before. If you’re in a marriage and you are trying to figure out if you love your spouse, there are a couple things you should know. First, it’s simple. Many people experience love in different ways. However, you’ve experienced love in your life is the way you will express love to your partner. So, in order for you to be “in” it, it has to be “in” you. Long before you made the commitment to your spouse, there had to have been opportunities in your life where you experienced someone loving you. The Bible says that God is love and that He loves us. So before you get married, it’s important to understand that God is the one who loved you first. You can really understand the way to love your partner because of the way that God has loved you.
#2 – Love Doesn’t Just Happen
Love is not only a feeling or an idea and doesn’t just happen like magic. It doesn’t just fall out of the sky. Little moments in your life with your parents, your teachers, or others help to shape your experience of what love is. Now, in your relationship, your real authentic expression of love was learned from your family of origin.
#3 – Love Covers Wrong the Right Way
Love covers wrong in a way that helps people to grow. So when your partner does something that makes you feel like you don’t want to love them, it’s at that moment in your relationship that love helps you to grow and helps them to mature. It empowers and encourages them. Love doesn’t degrade the integrity of people. Love doesn’t hurt. It helps your partner become one with you and get on the same page with you. Love covers wrong the right way.
#4 – Love is the Only Thing That is Perfect
The Bible says that God is love. This means that the perfection of love is held in the essence of who God is. When you think about that, that love is absolutely perfect. Now, when you think about your partner, the essence of love means it is made for imperfection. It’s not for when everything is going well and things are the way they should be. It’s not for when everybody’s happy and in love and everything is cool. In my mind, love goes to sleep when that happens. Real love wakes up when there is imperfection. Real love seeks out the things that are wrong because it wants to cover those things the right way. So, when you’re having conflict or communication problems, that’s when real love goes to work.
