5 Reasons You Need to Watch Exhale on Aspire

Last night Ronnie and I had the opportunity to attend the red-carpet premiere of Exhale. Exhale is a provocative new talk show that debuts tonight, 8PM Thurs. June 27th on Magic Johnson’s Aspire network.

From the network:

EACH WEEK, ANGELA BURT-MURRAY, ERIN JACKSON, ISSA RAE, MALINDA WILLIAMS AND RENE SYLER OF THE PROVOCATIVE NEW TALK SERIES EXHALE, bring you an hour of honesty and entertainment…where nothing is held back! They’ll open up about family, relationships, money, faith and everything that African American women are talking about.

This dynamic group of African American women, from different generations and backgrounds, will engage in candid discussions on a wide range of topics, sharing their personal thoughts and experiences. Exhale will give a fresh perspective to topics that are always current in the lives of women. Everyone will be inspired by the show’s powerful messages of understanding, motivation and personal evolution.

We were there to support our good friend Rene Syler of GoodEnoughMother.com and didn’t know what to expect, but we were blown away by how good the show was. So much so that I’ve pulled together a list of 5 reasons you need to tune in tonight and every Wednesday following at 8PM.

1) The Hosts Are Amazing

We could end our list of five reasons by just naming the five women who host the show. Angela Burt-Murray, Erin Jackson, Issa Rae, Malinda Williams and Rene Syler. They are all powerhouses in their own rights who bring a dynamic range of experiences, both personal and professional to Exhale.

2) Their Chemistry Is Off the Charts

You would think these women were former dorm mates at Hillman College by the way they connect and play off of each other’s words, but Issa will quickly remind everyone that she’s from a different, much younger generation LOL. I’m not sure how this group was selected but whoever was in charge did a great job of bringing together an amazing group that interacts so well on camera. We know that you’ll love these ladies together.

3) The Show is Hilarious

Talk shows in general don’t make me laugh. Like, not at all, not even a chuckle. That wasn’t the case last night because I was cracking up. A few times I had to contain myself just a bit and reign it back in. Issa Rae was probably the funniest of the group but all of the ladies had us going at different times whether they planned to or not.

4) We Need Shows Like This

Everyone always complains about Reality TV and the constant negative portrayal of black women specifically through these shows. This show is the opposite of anything you’ll find on Bravo or TV One. Five intelligent, beautiful sistas sharing their hearts, their minds and their souls for the viewing audience in a way that will make black women (and men) proud to share the experience.

5) Exhale Addresses Issues That Black Women Care About

During a post-screening discussion the hosts discussed the importance of addressing topics like relationships and health that are important to black women in particular. While most shows only want to capitalize on black women, Exhale seems to be a show that cares.

Exhale debuts at 8PM tonight on Aspire TV and airs every following Wednesday. You can find Aspire on your TV here.
