I’ve made a commitment to myself: “This summer, I’m going to be bikini-ready.”
I think it’s important to disclose that I don’t actually plan on wearing a bikini (at least I don’t think I will.) They are a little too revealing for me and I would not be comfortable in one. But, I’m not 100% sure if my views on wearing bikinis are being influenced by the fact that my body is not bikini-ready. And who knows what my views will be once I shed some of this fat around my belly.
My husband is always hugging me and rubbing my belly. He says things like: “I love this belly, I helped you make it.” “You’re all women…I love it.” “When I met you, you were a little girl. But you’re all woman now.” I know he’s being sweet and he means well. But he’s going to have to get used to rubbing a flat belly soon.
I’ve always known what I need to do in order to shed this belly fat. But this summer is going to be different. I’m actually going to take action. So, here are seven things that I commit to do to get bikini-ready this summer:
1. No More Excuses
I think it was just easier to blame my kids for this weight, but they are too old for that. I no longer have babies. The youngest is seven and my oldest is 21 years old. You can’t burn fat with excuses.
2. No More Chaos (control my stress levels)
Not only does stress impact the way that you burn calories, but it can also cause you to eat unhealthy foods. Have you ever heard of stress-eating? Well, I do that. I don’t know if I can eliminate stress altogether. But I can control it by taking breaks when I get overwhelmed. I can also control it via planning. For me, I get stressed when I feel like things are out of control either at work or at home. But when I take some time to get focused, I’m able to relieve my stress. If you can control your stress, then you can control your mess!
3. No More Playing Around
Stomach crunches alone will not get me there. I plan to go to the gym every day to do some cardio exercises to burn my fat. If you’re not sweating, then really, what are you doing?
4. No More Cookies (reduce my sugar intake)
This is the biggest culprit for me – sugary snacks. My husband and I stay up late and we snack on cookies. We stay busy all day at work, and we find ourselves snacking on cookies too. I plan to keep healthy snacks around to satisfy my cravings.
My favorite snacks are carrots, fruit, nuts, and cereal. Some of my favorite cereals are 100 calories per serving. And eating a bowl of cereal with Silk Original Soymilk, instead of dairy milk, makes for a very satisfying snack for me. I have this little bowl that allows me to measure out one serving and it makes the perfect snack. And the Silk Soymilk provides my body with much needed protein. You can’t eat unhealthy snacks, if you don’t have any at home.

5. No Dieting (aka – starving myself)
Any time I try to diet…I FAIL. Starving myself is not key. Instead, I plan to be more conscious about how many calories I am putting into my body and the types of food I am eating. Instead of skipping breakfast, my husband makes me a delicious smoothie made with spinach, ice, a fruit such as a banana or apple, and Silk Vanilla Soymilk. It’s easy to make, delicious and very filling. It’s about eating right, not dieting.
6. Not Hitting the Snooze Button
The best possible time for me to exercise is in the morning before my day begins. If I plan to do it later in the day, then inevitably something comes up that prevents me from working out. I am usually extremely tired in the morning, but if I can just get out of the bed and go to the restroom and brush my teeth, I am usually fine and ready to go after that. I just have to commit to not hitting the snooze button and I will be fine! When you take the first step, it’s easier to take the second.
7. No More Quitting (Get Committed)
As you can see, none of the aforementioned actions are difficult or even new fat-burning concepts. But they don’t work if I don’t work! I have to get committed to the process and stay consistent, if I want to see some results. If you want to see results, then you can’t quit.
So there you have it. I’m working on burning my belly fat this summer. And I’m doing it for me…not for my husband who really doesn’t care, not for Facebook as I will not be posting pictures, and not for my kids.
BMWK – I plan to be bikini ready by July 15th. Yes, I am giving myself a specific goal to aim for. Can you give me some more tips on getting bikini-ready (i.e – burning fat around my belly?) Do you wear bikinis?
