Singer, musician and 14-time Grammy winner, Alicia Keys, will be releasing a storytelling app for kids titled, The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee, co-produced by AK Worldwide and Bento Box Interactive. Loosely based on her own experiences growing up, the app tells the story of a young girl in New York, LeeLee, and her wise and mystical grandmother, Mama Mae, through a series of “story-packets.”
Throughout the app, users interact within LeeLee’s 3D, animated world while gaining insight on life lessons from Mama Mae’s magical journal. “Blue Moon,” the first story in the application depicts real-life obstacles to encourage children to face their fears and foster their love for adventure and discovery. The inspirational theme song, “Unlock Yourself,” as well as others within the app are composed and produced by Keys.
“I feel it’s so important to tell the story of Mama Mae and LeeLee through an app because this has the potential to really bring everybody together in an interesting way,” said Keys. “Mama Mae is a character that is partially born from the spirit of my Nana, who instilled in me all of the values that still guide my path to this day. As technology continues to advance, I feel it is so important to continue growing and fostering those indelible relationships as children tap into the digital landscape. The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee has the potential to enrich the way children, parents and grandparents participate in each other’s lives.”
The new app is available for download from the Apple App Store on the iPad, iPhone and iTouch on October 25th for $3.99. Read the complete story on the News 25 Channel’s website and access a trailer of the app below.
