Mikaela Sydney Smith is a 13-year-old student and budding actress that is doing amazing things in Atlanta, GA. She has created a conference, specifically for girls of color, to make a difference and develop “a sisterhood of positivity.” The conference, Activate Your Inner Magic – Mother/Daughter Dinner and Conference, will be held on May 7th, 2017 at Sutton Hall in Douglasville Ga, just 20 minutes outside of Atlanta.
This year’s theme is “Activating Your Inner Magic” and it’s all about teaching girls of color how to find and appreciate the beauty in themselves while using their power and voices to help change the world.
Mikaela started her organization, Brown Girl Magic, when she was just 11-years-old after creating Mikaela’s “Crazy Knee Socks for a Cause” campaign to collect socks for kids in need during the winter season.
Mikaela was inspired to create the conference after reading the book, “Chicken Soup for the Preteen Soul”
“Just like the heroic teens outlined in the book, Mikaela decided to extend her charitable services to brown girls like herself and develop a conference to empower and charge all brown girls to realize their inner magic to make a difference in their communities.” ~ Brown Girl Magic
Conference Details:
The conference will hold sessions that will feed into the hearts and minds of so many young girls of color: whether Black, mixed raced, Latino, Native American, Middle Eastern, or Asian.
There will be powerful speakers, great food, and awesome gift bags and a one-of-a-kind experience that you don’t want to miss! They have some very awesome speakers scheduled to truly empower girls of color…such as Denene Millner, Author and Founder of MyBrownBaby.com. She will set the tone for the conference by delivering an opening keynote that is sure to “leave an indelible impression on the hearts and minds of the young ladies in attendance.”
BMWK – my girls and I are definitely going to attend the Activate Your Inner Magic conference and I hope to see you and your daughters there too. Please leave Mikaela some encouraging words as we want to encourage her to keep on spreading her Brown Girl Magic.
