{Be A Better Spouse Challenge} Tip #9: Be Spontaneous – And Not Just In the Bedroom

If variety is the spice of life, spontaneity is the kick. It keeps the relationship fresh, fun and lively ““ kind  of like it was before life started to happen.

We often hear about keeping it spicy in the bedroom, which is a definite need. Let’s face it, you’re  sleeping with the same person the rest of your life; keeping it hot is practically a requirement. But the  same goes for things outside the bedroom, too.

After marriage, a lot of things start to happen””like kids. Kids force us to have to plan everything around  their sleeping/eating/school/activity schedules. But once in a while, I challenge you to choose to drop  the excuses as to why can’t do something unplanned with your mate. The bills need to be paid this  weekend? Most of us have web-enabled phones; no reason why you can’t pay them on the road. Junior  has swim class on Friday. The center likely has make up sessions””let him skip Friday and go on Tuesday. The dog has to be fed? Put him in a kennel or just bring him along. Like Nike says, just do it.

Just recently, my husband and I decided to take a cross country road trip from Michigan to Arizona.  Totally unplanned, we packed up our baby and our dog and hit the road an hour and a half later. Of  course, we had to make sure to bring plenty of clothes, diapers, wipes and toys for our son; and enough  food for our pup. But really, what excuse did we have not to go? We’d wanted to take such a trip for a  long time and we were both off work for the week. So why not?

For you, it doesn’t have to be a road trip. Whatever it is you’ve been dying to do, do it!

Not to sound morbid, but let’s face it, we really don’t have a lot of time on this earth as it is. We have  even less time with our mates. Kick it up a notch with a dose of spontaneity and experience life together  to the fullest.

What’s one thing you’ve been putting off because you thought you didn’t have time? Take some time today to figure out how you can do it (soon!) and get back to us. Make it a mission to make your relationship the priority!
