Thanksgiving football calls for chicken wings and seafood buckets!! Well, at my house anyway. We always have the intention of eating Thanksgiving dinner early, but that rarely happens so we like to keep appetizers going so we don’t starve to death before dinner. Then sometimes we actually do eat really early and we cook the wings and things for the late game. I love Old Bay seasoning and although the can it comes in says you can eat it on a number of things, I had only ever had it on seafood or in a seafood pot. Well I tried it on chicken, and I am officially hooked! With this Old Bay wings recipe you can bake them or fry them and they will be delicious. The key to this one is the sauce!
Crispy Old Bay Wings
4lbs. Chicken Wing Sections, or Drumettes
3T Old Bay Seasoning
1/3c. Apple Cider Vinegar
2T Honey
1 stick Unsalted Butter
Oil, for frying (optional)
Fry
Heat oil in heavy skillet or deep fryer to medium heat. Fry wings until golden, and crispy, about six minutes on each side depending on the size of the wings. Drain excess oil on paper towels and toss in sauce. **Old Bay is plenty salty. Don’t season the wings. Just toss in the sauce.**
Bake
Preheat oven to 400. Toss wings in one tablespoon of vegetable oil and place wings on a wire rack on a sheet pan. Cook for about 40 minutes, until crispy.
Toss in Old Bay Sauce and serve!
Sauce
In a glass bowl, mix cider vinegar, honey and old bay seasoning and microwave for 1 – 1.5 minutes. It should be sizzling. Add cold butter and swirl butter around until it melts. Then whisk it to blend well. The sauce should be a light gold color. Toss prepared wings in sauce and serve!
