BMWK Weekend Holiday Travel Tips!

The holiday travel rush officially began on Wednesday with a lot of travelers leaving to get home early for the Christmas holiday on Sunday. There are still a lot of travelers leaving today and even flying out on Christmas morning. We have a few holiday travel tips to make the trip a little less stressful.

First and foremost have your ID out and ready at all times. “Undress before you go,” by removing your coat and shoes, not wearing a belt and consider wearing slip on shoes. When putting items in trays for the x-ray machine, place your jewelry and laptop/tablet computer in the last tray so you can watch it as you go thru the x-ray machine. If you put them in the first trays someone can grab and go with your iPad or laptop.

Don’t wrap any gifts that you are taking home. TSA agents will need to un-wrap them for inspection. If you are going to check a bag, do not put any valuables in that bag. Remember, thieves don’t steal entire bags just individual items out of the bag. Once you have retrieved your checked bag from the luggage carousel, double check that your valuables are still there, if not report it to airline authorities immediately. If possible pack valuables in a rolling duffle bag that can fit in the overhead bin so you don’t have to worry about someone stealing your gifts. You will also save time by not having to wait for your luggage.

If you have any questions on traveling with food during the holidays, download the free smartphone app “MyTSA App” and read all the rules and regulations from your trusty phone.
