We couldn’t have festivals month on BMWK without highlighting one of our all time favorites, the Essence Music Festival. On July 6th, the Essence Music Festival returns to New Orleans for a fabulous weekend of music, empowerment and celebration of our culture.
This year, the festival is pulling out all stops with a lineup featuring some of the best in music. Festival superstar Mary J. Blige is back along with Fantasia, Ledisi, Charlie Wilson and one of our favorite Londoners Estelle. BMWK’s favorite musical couple Kindred the Family Soul will also be gracing the stage with their popular New Philadelphia sound. This year’s festival is full of first time performers including Goapele and Dru Hill. Essence will also honor the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, with the “Power Award” during her return to the festival stage.
Don’t miss the soul stirring gospel tribute to Fred Hammond and Mary Mary. In addition to all the fabulous music, guests will also be able to enjoy the “Essence Empowerment Expo,” which is totally free!
