Comedian Cedric the Entertainer sent out a plea to his fans this week to help keep his show “Soul Man” on the air. The series, which co-stars Niecy Nash, premiered earlier this year on TV Land as the network’s second-highest rated series debut, but lost viewers throughout the season. Now Cedric aims to draw support for a letter writing campaign from the show’s fans to help save the series from cancellation. He released an open letter which includes a pre-written text for fans to forward to drum up as much support for the show as possible. Urban Daily
Denzel Washington opened up in an in-depth interview with Hollywood reporter, discussing, among other things, that he learned from others’ experiences and watched YouTube videos of alcoholics to prep for his role of a heavy drinker in his new film, Flight. Although the veteran actor admits to having a drink here and there, he is not a heavy drinker and often gives up all alcohol while filming. ” We’ve all tied one on,” he acknowledges. “But if I had been drinking while I was shooting, it’d be harder to stay disciplined, just to get up in the morning. You are a little more hung over, grouchier. I knew this was an excellent opportunity, and a really good story. So it was something I wanted to do right.” Hollywood Reporter
Singer Alicia Keys joined Rev. Jesse Jackson in drawing around 2,000 people to North Carolina A&T’s campus last week to drive home the importance of voting. She stressed the importance of early voting and the fact that President Obama won North Carolina, a swing state, by a very narrow margin in the 2008 election. “There’s no one here who can say that your vote doesn’t matter,” Keys said
