Consider Travel for the Holiday: Christmas Fun in Philly!

Christmas is a little over two weeks away and the kids will be home soon on holiday break.     The city of brotherly love embraces the holiday with several family oriented holiday events.  If Philadelphia is where you’ll be spending the holidays this year, we have a few fun and fabulous events you and the kids will love.

One of the most popular holiday traditions in Philadelphia is the ‘Christmas Light Show’ at the Macy’s Center City.  Now thru 12/31/13 a wall inside Macy’s is brought to life by a 100,000 dancing LED lights set to the music of the famous Wanamaker Organ.  A holiday tradition since 1955, performances take place at the top of  every hour daily from 10a-8pm.

The square dedicated to Benjamin Franklin becomes home to ‘Electrical Spectacle:  A Holiday Light Show @ Franklin Square’ during the holiday season.  The centerpiece of this holiday show is the 10-foot tall kite made of sparkling lights that spread holiday glow throughout the square to the holiday tunes of the Philly Pops.  Shows run every 30 minutes.  This show also includes visits from Santa, rides on the holiday train & carousel celebrating everything from Christmas to Kwanzaa.  (Please note it is closed on Christmas Day).

A new holiday event has been added this season.  ‘Bright Lights Big Santa @ the Blue Cross River Rink’ runs now thru 1/5/2014.  Imagine thousands of festive holiday lights, Santa and dancing elves set to hip-hop music in a 3-D light show.  Part of the ‘Waterfront Winterfest’ the show is complete with fire pits, heated pop-up restaurants and a craft marketplace for unique holiday gifts.  Elves dancing to hip-hop?  You’ve gotta love it!  🙂

All of these family events are FREE!  For more information on these holiday events and more, please visit www.VisitPhilly.com
