single christian men, Ephesians 5, marriage problems

Coronavirus, known scientifically as COVID-19, is wreaking havoc on our way of life. As the pandemic makes its way across our communities and the world, we can become overwhelmed and fearful. The Bible teaches us to not let fear overtake us. But that’s easier said than done. For me, prayer not only reminds me who is in control, but it keeps my spirit calm and my mind outward focused. Here are five prayers to cover your faith, family, friends, focus and finances during these challenging times.

COVID-19: 5 Prayers to Cover Faith, Family, Friends, and Focus

In this article:

  1. Faith
  2. Family
  3. Friends
  4. Focus
  5. Finances

Faith

Psalm 46:10 – “Be still and know that I am God.”

Heavenly Father, it’s so hard to sit still. When trouble comes that affects only me, it’s a no brainer to hunker down in prayer and let you handle it. But when an unknown disease with the potential to sneak up on me and those I love comes into play, I won’t lie, it’s scary. I want to do something. But it’s just this type of situation that will truly test my faith. Lord, help me to stand firm in my convictions that you’ve got this. The coronavirus is not too hard for you to handle. It’s not too far gone for you to overtake. I will allow my faith to rest in your power. I will trust you enough to be still. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Family

Psalm 46:1 – “God is our refuge and our strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

Heavenly Father, when I think of my family and the challenges we are facing with the coronavirus, I don’t want them to be afraid and I don’t want to seem weak. I am comforted in knowing that you are our refuge. You are our strength. In you, we have all the help we need in this time of trouble. Help me to remind my family of this truth. As our refuge, place angels around us to cover and protect us from this disease. Give us the strength we need to endure whatever comes our way. Hold my family in your arms, O Lord. Help us to be loving, giving, kind, and merciful towards each other. Help us to remember that no matter what, you are always with us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Friends

John 15:12-13 – “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Heavenly Father, even as I pray for my family, I think of my friends. There are so many whose lives have touched mine and right now, I pray for their safety and the safety of those they love. I ask that you help me to be the kind of friend they need right now. Even though the coronavirus is causing us to keep a social distance, I pray we can remain spiritually close. Please give them everything they need to sustain them through these challenging weeks and months ahead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Focus

Colossians 3:2 – “Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things.”

Heavenly Father, during this coronavirus outbreak, my mind has been all over the place. There are so many concerns facing us right now and it’s hard not to get caught up in it. Lord, I pray you help me to fix my mind on you and things above. Help me to remember that this too will pass. I know that ultimately, this world is not my home; but while I am here in the flesh, I pray you keep me focused on you. When my mind is on you, I am faithful. When I give you my attention, I also give you my heart. I am able to serve others more, comfort those in need, and pray for those who are hurting. Give me the strength I need to turn my mind away from trouble and on to the one who can handle it all. In Jesus name, Amen.

Finances

Philippians 4:19 – “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”

Heavenly Father, the coronavirus outbreak is taking its toll on us in so many ways. Financially, it is delivering a crushing blow to so many people. Not only for my family but for those we know and love, I pray for a financial rescue during this time. I pray for you to bless us and those around us to meet the needs of people who are going without. I pray that as a community and nation, we take to heart your command to love our neighbor. And, no matter what the bank account says, I pray that you will continue to provide us with exactly what we need. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I hope these prayers are a great start to your time with God. As you give God control over this situation, remember to do your part and be safe.

BMWK, may God bless you and keep your family safe during the coronavirus outbreak. What are you doing to keep your family safe?
