Couple Spotlight: Dennis + La Sonia Make Blended Families Look Good

Dennis & La Sonia Ball

Ages:  Dennis (44) and La Sonia (42)

Wedding date: August 6, 2011

Our blended family consists of:

Dennis has three children, two boys and one girl: Aaron- age 23, Isiah- age 16 and  Danielle – age 20. I have  four children, two girls and two boys, and I also take  care of my younger sister: Jaleel – 23, Jesse – 16, Yazmine – 14, Khadijah – 12  and my sister Erin – 21.

How we met:

Dennis and I met in October of 2007 through a mutual friend. We talked on the phone  for a few weeks and when we saw that we had common interests and realized we  attended the same church ( a large congregation in the Los Angeles area), we planned  our first date. Our first date was on October 26, 2007 we went to see a Corteo –  Cirque du Soleil act and had dinner afterwards. From that day forward the chemistry  was evident and we never looked back.

How we got engaged:

Dennis had this big plan to propose while we were on vacation in Jamica in 2010 but  being the Taurus that he is, he started thinking of all the possible things that  could go wrong. So he went to plan b and proposed in front of our children one  evening while we were at home relaxing. He called me in the den and said we needed  to show the kids how were were going to dance on our first song when we got married. The song he had playing was “This Is For the Lover In You” by Babyface and  LL Cool J. While we are dancing and laughing with the kids, Isiah yells, “I don’t  see a ring on her finger!” and I start to agree with him. So Danielle says you can  borrow my ring and she puts her ring on my finger. We are laughing and being silly  and through all the silliness her ring falls off (it was too small) and when they went to replace it, he replaced it with my engagement ring. Everyone stood there to  see how long it was going to take for me to realize what had just happened. After a few seconds I saw the ring and screamed! We then  hugged, the kids laughed and I started to cry.

Best part of our wedding day:

Dennis and I decided to have a intimate destination wedding in Montego Bay,  Jamaica. The best part of it all was not only becoming man and wife but seeing 35  of our family and friends there to share and celebrate in the moment.

Advice we’d give to other dating or engaged couples:

Always put God first in your relationship. Prepare yourself mentally and  spiritually for the commitment. Try to associate with other committed married  couples. And through all the preparations and planning make sure to keep it about  you and your commitment to one another.
