Detroit Dad Transforms Neighborhood to Create Family Fun

Talk about a man who is trying to do the right thing. Dan Davis of Detroit decided to take an empty lot near his house and transform into an outdoor space that children and families in his neighborhood could enjoy.

Next door to his home, Davis has set up a barbecue grill, a fire pit, a play set, a homemade movie screen, and even weights for working out. There is also a stretch of lots across the street from his home that he turned into an athletic field surround by a wall of tires and a go-kart track. Davis even mows the grass on all the lots and makes sure they stay free of trash.

Davis does all of this because he’s determined to create a safe place on the west side of Detroit  where families can have fun close to home.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Davis says, “Everybody comes out, about 10 to 15 people. … and then some people, they just sit on their porch and watch it, and it’s all good. It’s beautiful, lovely.” The father of two young girls goes on to say, “Before my babies, it was just about what I want. Now it can’t be what I want, it’s about what they need.”
