Dinner for Two: Shrimp Etouffee Recipe

Can you believe that Valentines Day is this weekend?! If you don’t want to brave the crowds of eating at a fancy restaurant with your sweetheart, you can make this delicious meal at home. Shrimp Etouffee is fun to create together, or you can surprise your honey with a candlelit meal for two.

What you need: 

  1. 1/4 cup of butter
  2. 1/4 cup of flour
  3. 1lb of medium/large shrimp peeled & deveined
  4. 2 cups chicken broth
  5. 1 medium onion, diced
  6. 3 celery spears, diced
  7. 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
  8. 2 Roma tomatoes, diced
  9. 4 garlic cloves, minced
  10. 1 teaspoon of thyme
  11. 1 tablespoon of Old Bay Seasoning
  12. 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire Sauce
  13. Salt & Pepper to taste
  14. Hot sauce (optional)
  15. Two green onion sprigs chopped
  16. 1 palm-full of fresh parsley
Instructions
  1. First you have to make the roux. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. When the butter begins to brown, reduce the heat to simmer and add the flour.
  3. Continue rapidly mixing, until the combination turns dark brown in color.
  4. Next add the onions, celery, and bell pepper. Cook until the veggies are tender.
  5. Then add the minced garlic and thyme, and stir until well mixed.
  6. Finally stir in the chicken broth, tomatoes, and Old Bay seasoning.
  7. Continue to simmer until the mixture is nicely thickened.
  8. Lastly add the shrimp, and cook until pink.
  9. Just before serving season with the salt, pepper, & hot sauce.
  10. Garnish with green onions & parsley.
  11. Serve over rice and enjoy!
