Dr. Maya Angelou Dies at the Age of 86

A woman who touched many souls during her lifetime in so many ways, poet and author Dr. Maya Angelou has died at the age of 86.

Dr. Angelou passed away at her home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A great woman whose career has spanned decades, Angelou is known to all of us, not just as a gifted writer, but also as a film director, professor, dancer and singer.

Despite being called Dr. Angelou by all of us, Maya Angelou never went to college, but her remarkable talent earned her 30 honorary degrees and she taught American Studies for several years at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem.

A woman who has touched countless lives with her powerful voice, her passionate words, and a sense of wisdom that we all need in our lives, Dr. Angelou will surely be missed by us all. May her soul rest in peace.

Dr. Maya Angelou passed quietly in her home before 8:00 a.m. EST. Her family is extremely grateful that her ascension was not belabored by a loss of acuity or comprehension. She lived a life as a teacher, activist, artist and human being. She was a warrior for equality, tolerance and peace. The family is extremely appreciative of the time we had with her and we know that she is looking down upon us with love.
