2020 Faithful Marriage: 9 Ways to Allow God to Take Your Marriage Higher in 2020

marriage boot camp, faithful marriage

I enjoy the holidays. It’s a time to relax, reflect, and recharge. It also offers a great opportunity to connect with your family and make great plans for the new year. As 2020 rolls around, I couldn’t help but think about the symbolism of it all and how I can leverage it to make my life and marriage more excellent. At the top of the list is enriching our marriage spiritually. Below are 9 ways to have a faithful marriage with God and your spouse in the new year.

2020 Faithful Marriage: 9 Ways to Allow God to Take Your Marriage Higher in 2020

  1. Pray together more often
  2. Share a scripture a day
  3. Make a gratitude box
  4. Keep your word
  5. Plan spiritually enriching dates
  6. Encourage each other daily
  7. Seek advice when struggling
  8. Talk about what you’re learning about God
  9. Talk about what you’re learning about yourself

Pray together more often

The first step to a faithful marriage is praying together with your spouse. The world is changing and there are so many outside challenges attacking your relationship each day. In order to combat them spiritually, praying together is a great first step. Allow God to take control of the things that threaten to knock your relationship with your spouse off-kilter. Whether it’s daily, weekly, or more, spend time with your spouse in prayer.

Share a scripture a day

This one is easy. Find a scripture. Share a scripture. It might be one that moves you because of what you’re going through. But, it might be something you know will impact your spouse. When you pray together, you learn each other’s hearts. Sharing a scripture that can ease pain expressed in prayer can help your marriage move to another level.

Make a gratitude box

I know this might sound cheesy. But, it’s actually something I learned from my pastor’s wife and plan to implement in our family in 2020. There’s nothing that draws people closer than telling someone why you’re grateful for them. Taking time to write down things you are grateful for and sharing them with your spouse is a great way to have a faithful marriage. Write it down, leave it in the box, and allow God to take your marriage even higher.

Keep your word

As you and your spouse grow closer in your walk with God, you will be challenged internally to grow. When you decide for yourself what changes you will make, keep your word. Keep your word to God and ask your spouse to hold you accountable. A faithful marriage relies on your ability to be honest about your heart and stay true to your word.

Plan spiritually enriching dates

It’s a given you should date your spouse. But it can sometimes be too easy to do the same ole same ole without giving it much thought. Take some time to do things that mean something and give you an opportunity to have intimate conversations. Go to an art show, take a salsa class, go on a picnic. Whatever you do, make it both fun and enriching.

Encourage each other daily

The hustle and bustle of daily life can be taxing on a marriage. A faithful marriage is possible only when each partner takes a breath and gives a boost of encouragement to their spouse. Whether it’s a text or a midday call, let your spouse know you’re thinking of them.

Seek advice when struggling

In a faithful marriage, everything isn’t always rosy. On those days when life hits hard and your spouse hits harder, seek advice from a spiritual, unbiased and trusted (by both of you) third party. Call your pastor or close friend and share what you’re struggling with. Then get advice about how you and your spouse can get back on track.

Talk about what you’re learning about God

We all have our own personal relationship with God. Often times we like to keep what we’re learning about him close to the vest. But in order to take your marriage to the next level in 2020, sharing what you’re learning with your spouse is a good move. Your view of God naturally affects your view of your marriage. Talking to your spouse about where you and God stand will help you get closer to God together.

Talk about what you’re learning about yourself

Talking about what you’re learning about God will offer a natural opportunity to reflect on your own character and heart. Thus, you have a natural chance to be vulnerable with your spouse about your own struggles and fears. This will give your marriage a depth that’s not easy to come by. By opening up to your spouse, you open up your marriage to a whole new world.

A faithful marriage means faithfulness to both God and your spouse. It also means having an enriching life and a partner who has your back on every level. If you want to see your marriage rise up in 2020, take these 9 steps to heart and allow God to work a miracle in your relationship.
