First Look: Barack and Michelle Obama’s ‘First Date’ Opens to Rave Reviews at Sundance Film Festival

I love romance, plain and simple. So when a good romance flick comes along, I make sure to catch it one way…theater, or another…Netflix, Redbox, YouTube.

However, there are very few first night, theater worthy chick flicks that have gleaned my hard earned dollars. Well, rumor has it that based on the stellar reviews from the Sundance Film Festival, one such movie is on the way.

It is based on the first date of our President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama. According to critics, Southside with You, starring Parker Sawyers and Tika Sumpter, “could stand alone as a sweet, mature drama with layers of social and racial issues, family dynamics and, yes — romance.”

The Daily Beast calls it an “adorable tale” and goes so far as to say it has “a first kiss so hot it made theatergoers at Sundance melt in the aisles.”

As for Sumpter, she had this to say about the film, ““I wanted to see somebody who looked like me falling in love up there.”

While there is no scheduled release date, you can check out the trailer below.

Here are what some others had to say.

This movie is for sure making my theater worthy first night list!

BMWK, could a movie be made about your first date with your spouse?
