FLOTUS Michelle Obama Debuts New Cookbook

How could you not love the first lady? She’s beautiful, she’s stylish, she’s an awesome mother, a wonderful wife, and she cares about the health of our country. Mrs. Obama started her Let’s Move campaign to combat childhood obesity, and she’s not stopping there. The First Lady is debuting her new cookbook, American Grown: How the White House Kitchen Garden Inspires Families, Schools, and Communities.

The 271-page book goes into details about how she got her vegetables to grow, mistakes she made, and how to start a garden in your home. In the book, Mrs. Obama relates the garden of vegetables to the nation’s children. She writes, “Just as each seed we plant has the potential to become something extraordinary, so does every child.”

“It is definitely a passion. Getting the kids in our country to eat healthy. This book is a way to talk about our journey to better health,” states the FLOTUS.

The book was released Tuesday by Crown Publishers for $30 retail. It’s full of beautiful illustrations of the garden, information about community gardens across the US, and even Bo, the family dog, gets some closeups. American Grown is divided into four sections, one for each season. And what would a cookbook be without delicious recipes? But Mrs. Obama doesn’t make it all about her. She lets us know that the garden wouldn’t flourish without the help of students, volunteers, and White House staff.

All proceeds from the book will be donated to the National Park Foundation for programs that promote gardening and healthy eating, and to help maintain the White House Garden.
