INTERVIEW:

BMWK: Hi Raven and thank you for this opportunity to interview you for BlackandMarriedWithKids.com. Even though you’re still young you’ve been in the business for a while now. When the opportunity to play the fairy Iridessa in Disney’s Tinker Bell and The Great Fairy Rescue presented itself was it still exciting?

Raven-Symoné: Most definitely. Being a part of a franchise like Tinker Bell and finally being able to be a part of the story that explains where she comes from and who her friends were before she met Peter Pan, I had to be a part of it. I get to play a beautiful black fairy who’s in charge of the sun and making things happen like rainbows and making sure the plants get life. I definitely jumped at the chance of being in the movie.

BMWK: We have three daughters that always want to dress up and play princess, tell me why you think your character Irirdessa should be one of their favorite characters.

Raven-Symoné: I think the fairy will definitely be something they’ll want to dress up as because they stand for such amazing things. It’s about nature, friendship, tolerance and there’s a character for every type of girl. You have the southern girl, the smart one, the adventurous one and Tinker Bell is always about her friends and when you start to have those parties for your daughters, a fairy party is always the best and can go very green which Tinker Bell is always down for.

BMWK: We can’t wait to pop in our copy of the DVD. What kind of feeling do you want kids to have after they’re done watching it?

Raven-Symoné: The great thing is they can sit right in their homes dressed up as Tinker Bell or the other fairies on September 21st and I think they’re going to leave, especially with this edition, with understanding of other people. They’ll learn to be adventurous and to make sure that they trust their friends because most of them only want what’s best. Also hopefully their parents will sit down with them as well because sometimes kids need their parents to trust them even though it may seem far fetched. There was a girl in the movie who told her dad that fairies do exist and he didn’t believe her until the end. It’s definitely a film that’s good for the entire family and not just the kids.

BMWK: When you were younger were fairies and Disney characters a big part of your childhood?

Raven-Symoné: Well I have to say I go over to my mom’s house that I grew up in, in Atlanta and I look at my drawer underneath my TV and I have every single Disney animated movie, and I’m not exaggerating on VHS. With Peter Pan I have several copies because I wore them out. I always loved the part when they were clapping to make Tink come to life. Tinker Bell was such an important character that appeared in every Disney film after that making that spark of light, light up the entire castle it makes you want to know more about her life. So like I said before I had to be a part of it because telling an original story like this is something that I live for.

BMWK: Well thank you for taking the time to speak with us here at BMWK and we can’t wait to see your animated character Iridessa in Tinker Bell and The Great Fairy Rescue!
