In the first time in more than 24 years, the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn. will have its first black Santa Clause. Over the weekend, news hit that America’s largest mall will feature Larry Jefferson, a retired U.S. army veteran and a BLACK man, as its resident Santa.
Well, it didn’t take long for the racists and white-only Santa diehards to react. As of yesterday, there were calls for boycotts, an online petition and tons of social media backlash to the non-white Santa.
The comments reportedly got so ugly on the comment sections of many of the news outlets covering the #BlackSanta story that these outlets were forced to turn their message boards off. Yikes! Obviously when you’re at home drinking eggnog, listening to Bing Crosby and dreaming of a “White Christmas,” it only takes one off bulb to blow your fuse.
But Tis the Season, right? So glad to hear the people most enthralled with hate over the appearance of a fictional Christmas character are truly able to get in the spirit. So glad to hear these likely Christians and Santa fanatics aren’t too occupied with…you know…studying Christ and His goodwill on earth that they can’t embrace the things that matter most this holiday season.
