I Need a Second Honeymoon that Looks Like This

It’s been 1825 days since I married my college sweetheart. We had a beautiful wedding with a picturesque setting on a lake house with all of our family and friends and then went on a glorious honeymoon on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. For seven days, we left all of our problems in the states and wined and dined just like newlyweds should do. When we finally returned to our lives in the States, we settled into our married lives quickly forgetting about our time in Puerto Rico. Being married seemed to make time move faster, and five years later we are yearning for that relaxed feeling we had on our honeymoon. You see within the last five years we’ve had two children 18 months a part, we moved to another state, both my husband and I changed jobs, and recently I decided to become an entrepreneur. Needless to say, after 5 years of marriage we need a vacation–now.

We’re not searching for just any family vacation, we’re looking for a place to have our second honeymoon. A place without the stresses of family life, and an escape from the “real world”. Our anniversary is quickly approaching in the next 6 days and we’ve decided that NOW is the time to book that second honeymoon. While 5 years is not long in the grand scheme of forever, it’s a great time to reconnect as we did before we had so many children!

Knowing that I’m about to be out of time planning this second honeymoon, I’ve made a tentative list of must haves for our vacation spot:

1. Our destination must be an adults only spot. On our first honeymoon, we stayed at a corporate chain that had people of all ages staying. It was common to see couples with their families and toddlers screaming in the hotel restaurant. This time we want to go to the hotel where there’s a strict adults only policy. I don’t want to hear any kids yelling and screaming all over the place. I need quiet time for this honeymoon.

2. I must be near a beach. There’s nothing like getting a tall alcoholic beverage and laying on the beach soaking up the sun rays and relaxing with the sounds of the water nearby.

3. The vacation spot needs to be secluded but accessible to activities–if we choose to be active. We want to be in an area that if we choose to sleep, relax and eat that there are plentiful spots to do that at. However, we also want to be accessible to activities if we get the urge to go snorkeling, swimming, or dancing.

4. The vacation spot must be affordable. There’s no need to go broke on this second honeymoon. Instead, the place needs to be affordable where we can drink, eat and be merry but no worry about mortgaging off our house when we return.

In the end, we have several destination spots that are in consideration: Myrtle Beach, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Trinidad, the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic all lined up.

Help me out where’s the perfect spot to go for your second honeymoon?
