LeBron James Tells the World How He Really Feels About His Father

NBA star, LeBron James, posted a picture on Instagram last week, expressing to the world how he feels about growing up without a father. The picture he posted is from the March GQ magazine interview where he opens up a bit about his personal life.

His mother, Gloria, who gave birth to him when she was just 16 years old, raised the 29-year-old married dad of two on her own.  LeBron’s biological father has never been a part of his life and LeBron has actually never met the man.  The text that overlays the photo acknowledges that James would not be who is his today if it wasn’t for his father’s absence.

James has provided no explanation for his decision to post the image, but my guess is that he wanted to offer some motivation and encouragement to the kids out there who might be in fatherless homes, telling them to use the experience as a motivator. This is what LeBron James shared in the image:

Like, ‘Wow, Dad, you know what, I don’t know you, I have no idea who you are, but because of you is part of the reason who I am today.’ The fuel that I use—you not being there—it’s part of the reason I grew up to become who I am. It’s part of the reason why I want to be hands-on with my endeavors….  So me in a position allowing people around me to grow, that maybe wouldn’t have happened if I had two parents, two sisters, a dog, and a picket fence, you know?

I’m sure there are boys out there who look up to James and found some comfort and inspiration is his post.
