Mom Arrested and Loses Child After Supermarket Spanking

When a Brockton, Massachusetts mother decided to spank her 5-year old in front of patrons at a local supermarket, she had no idea what she was in for.

Marie Lyssa Mars was shopping with her son at a Shaw’s supermarket last week when she began spanking her son while waiting  in a checkout line.  Reportedly, patrons asked her to stop, but she continued to spank him.  After leaving to go home, she was pulled over by police and arrested.  Patrons made note of her license plate number and reported what they saw. When stopped by police and questioned about spanking him, Mars said her son was a very active child and she was just disciplining him.

Mars, 42, has pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a child under 14.  She is being held on $5,000 bail and is due back in court on March 3rd.  In the meantime, her son has been turned over to the Department of Children and Families.
