NFL Player Retires to Attend Medical School

26 year old Myron Rolle is hanging up his cleats in exchange for scrubs. The NFL player is retiring from professional football and is going to medical school. Rolle was a star safety at Florida State, and was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the 6th round in the 2010 NFL Draft. After being released from the Pittsburgh Steelers following the 2012 season, Rolle decided to pursue a different career path as opposed to working out for a new team.

“I said to myself, ‘I can knock my head against the wall for 8-9 years or move on to medicine.’ I was leaving the game with no concussions and dexterity in both my hands, where I could be a neurosurgeon one day,” said Rolle in his interview with Lost Letterman.

Rolle was the recipient of a Rhodes Scholarship, and instead of entering the draft in 2009, he chose to study at Oxford for his senior year. He is doing an administrative fellowship at AmeriHealth Caritas in Philadelphia, and is waiting to hear back from medical schools.
