We were provided with a copy of My Name Is Not Isabella by Jennifer Fosberry to review for the site. When the book first came and and my girls saw the cover art they were hooked from the jump. The book offers an engaging story of a little girl, Isabella with a very vivid imagination. As Isabella goes through her day her identity changes. The trigger for these changes is whenever her mom wants her to do something…. I know somebody has been there before LOL.
The twist is that the author has Isabella take on the identities of great women through history. When Isabella’s mother tells her it’s time to wake up in the morning she lets mommy know that I’m not Isabella, I’m Sally (Sally Ride the first woman in space) the greatest astronaut in outer space. Later when it’s time for the bus she’s Rosa (Rosa Parks) the greatest activist there ever was! What my girls really got a kick out of was that the last role young Isabella took on was that of mommy.
Even though my girls are young we were able to look through the short bios in the back of the book about each person that Isabella mentioned and use it as a teachable moment. The verdict from them would be that they loved it since we’ve already read the book several times and they still can’t enough so we’d definitely recommend checking it out.
Below is a short video on the book’s illustration.
