Sinbad’s New Reality Show: Um, What’s The Point?

Who knew Sinbad had so many personal issues? Between his divorce, owing $2.5 million in back taxes, Hollywood offers drying up left and right, he’s been through a lot.

But in his new reality show, “Sinbad: It’s Just Family,” on WEtv, he’s all smiles and optimistic.  “This is my second chance in life,” he asserts during the opening.

The first episode centers around Sinbad moving in with his former ex-wife/current wife, living with her and their two adult kids, Paige (25) and Royce (22). Royce is living the life in his mom’s house, waking up every morning to pancakes and fresh laundry. Paige on the hand seems ready to move on. Sounds like an intriguing premise, right?

We’ve all liked Sinbad, with his family-friendly comedy shows and hilarious insights on proper parenting. But in watching the first episode, it just seems like he’s trying too hard here, like he doesn’t trust the editors of the show to piece together something decent so he’s “overacting” to make it funny.

(Also, is it just me or does Paige look like NeNe? Between the haircut and the glasses…definitely looking like one of ATL’s most visible residents.)

His wife (who he divorced in 1996 and remarried in 2002) seems like she’s a really nice person. (I’m trying to figure out why they’re just now moving in together.)  Very much laidback in contrast to Sinbad’s over the top personality.

I’m trying to figure out what comes next for them in future episodes. Whereas there is a clear storyline in the Braxton Family Values show (will they all reach their dreams of stardom/what’s next for Toni Braxton), I’m not sure where else there is to go with this show.  Everyone just moved in, so they’re stuck under one roof. What’s next – Sinbad creating a “man cave”? I’m a little bored.

Did you watch the show? What did you think?
