Starbucks Shuts Down the #RaceTogether Campaign After One Week

Just last week we wrote about Starbucks dipping into race relations with their #RaceTogether Campaign. Baristas across the nation were told to write #RaceTogether on cups to spark engaging conversation about what’s going on in this country with race.

The campaign was met with criticism on social media and other major organizations as people stated that they didn’t want to #RaceTogether as they get their coffee. Although it wasn’t received well by their customers, they didn’t expect universal praise.

Starbucks is quick to state, the decision to halt the campaign was not due to the public backlash but all apart of the campaign plan. So, what’s next on the #RaceTogether campaign, if they aren’t finish? I guess we have keeping watching our coffee cups.

We do know Starbucks plans more “Race Together” activities, including efforts to expand into urban neighborhoods, hire 10,000 “opportunity youth” over the next three years.
