[This post is part of a series highlighting couples from our latest film Still Standing. If you are in the Atlanta Area, please join us on September 13th for a special screening of the movie, details here.
When Rev. Rose Marie Greene was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of breast cancer, her husband, Rev. Wesley E. Greene, Sr., stopped everything including working to focus on his “baby.” He took her to every doctors appointment and every chemotherapy treatment and six weeks of daily radiation treatment. He read her every healing scripture in the bible, prayed for her, and sang to her when she was feeling her worst.
Rev. Rose Marie thanks God for her miraculous recovery. But she also thanks God for the love that she had for her husband and from her husband during that time.
Rev. Wesley was more than happy to drop everything to focus on his wife. He says:
“One of the joys of being married is to be there to have each others back and to help each other through the difficult times.”
Rev. Rose Marie knows that spouses sometimes have the tendency to pull away when their significant other is faced with a critical illness. It’s part of self preservation and a coping mechanism. But she thanks God that her husband did not pull away and that they were able to work as a team to battle that illness.
The Greenes have been married for more than 31 years and can proudly state:
“In spite of dealing with the harrowing experience of battling a life threatening disease for a year, my marriage is still standing because of the faithfulness of God to His word, and strength and victory we found in loving each other as we climbed this mountain.”

So excited about this film can’t wait to see it!! such a blessing!!
Thank you Selene. We’re excited too as you know because you see how much we keep talking about it lol. We can’t wait to release it to see what type of impact it really has.
I am so thankful to the Greens for sharing their stories and for being positive examples of what a loving marriage should be!!! Their story is awesome and I can’t wait until everyone gets to see it.
One of our deacons and his wife met with the married couples of my church after the service this morning. We met to begin setting up the framework for our church’s marriage ministry. The couples were excited as well as our pastor. After the meeting, on the way home, I heard the announcement about the film coming out soon at the Public Playhouse on the radio and I couldn’t believe it! This is our season. Over the last few generations, marriage as an institution has been drug through the mud and it’s time to get back the understanding we need in order to 1. stand 2. set an example for our children as well as “society and ‘Dem” to follow 3. Please God as we live up to the covenant we made to/with him. I love it and can’t wait to see the dvd! My husband and I are still standing after 26 years!
What a blessing to read that story. I pray that if a situation like that were to arise in my marriage (Heaven forbid) that my husband would have the strength to do the same for me and vice versa.
