The Bank, My Business and My Babies

Over the past few years Ronnie and I have worked together to build our business (Tyler New Media) which includes the films that we make, public speaking, consulting and blogs like this one. One thing that I keep in mind when it comes to my business is that I want to also build a legacy that my children can become a part of if they choose. Because of this I love to immerse them into my daily routine in hopes that some type of life lesson is being ingrained on some level.

One of the routines that stands out above everything else are our trips to the bank. Normally they are wedged right between picking up one of my daughters from daycare and dropping off DVDs at the Post Office but the trip to the bank is in high demand.   I go in to deposit checks and handle my other banking needs and my girls beat me down to get inside with me all for one reason. Lollipops! Before I had small children I didn’t even realize that banks still gave out lollipops but guess what? They still do give out lollipops or at least the one close to me does.

Our tellers always close the conversation by asking me if it’s OK if the girls have a lollipop and if they forget my kids give a gentle reminder LOL. Even though I know this is their major motivation for coming I’m just happy to have them there and for them to see my process and what goes into running a business from behind the scenes.

So thanks to the bank and the fact that my girls love candy they want to go with daddy while he handles his business. As they travel along I can see that they’re learning small lessons. When we went in last week my 9 y/o pulled out a deposit slip for me to fill out and every now and then I’ll get a question about what I’m doing or why we are there. So for this I thank my local bank and whoever is responsible for the age old custom of banks giving out lollipops.
