Travel Tuesday: Baltimore’s African American Festival!

Summer is the season for all types of music and cultural festivals.  One of our favorite festivals is back.  Baltimore’s African American Festival returns July 6-7 with fun filled days of entertainment, activities, wellness seminars and music.

The African American festival is the destination for music and culture and has been a Baltimore tradition for over 30 years.  The festival includes activities for everyone in the family.  There will be children’s activities, arts & crafts and a health & wellness pavilion with free health screenings for everyone.  Put your favorite pair of sneakers on because you will need them in the ‘Get Movin Complex.’  Mom can practice her Yoga techniques, take a class in the Aerobics station or get her Zumba moves up to speed.  The kids and Dad can challenge each other at the Wii sports station or see who climbs the rock wall the fastest.

There will 150+ vendors at the African American Festival including food from some of Baltimore’s best chefs and restaurants. Stop by the ‘Beats, Beer & BBQ’ pavilion for fabulous music, drinks and of course delicious BBQ.  Once you’ve worn yourself out with activities and food get ready for show stopping music concerts.

Past festival performers have included Estelle, Chrisette Michelle, and Charlie Wilson. This years’ entertainment lineup is absolutely fabulous! A festival first, the “Step Like You Mean It” step show takes place on Sunday July 7th @ 4pm.  Flash back to all of the fantastic step shows from your college days, and the Spike Lee joint ‘School Daze!’  The Ladies will rule the main stage at this years’ festival with amazing performances by Fantasia on Saturday July 6th and Ms. Patti-Patti, Patti LaBelle on Sunday July 7th.

Discounted hotel rates at the Hotel Monaco are also available starting at $119.  Wrap up your 4th of July weekend with a trip to B-More for the fabulous African American Festival. For more information on festival events and travel, please visit www.africanamericanfestival.net.

Be Happy. Be Fabulous. Be Well Traveled.
