Travel Tuesday: Celebrate the 4th Philly Style!

It’s that time of the year again; the 4th of July is right around the corner. We couldn’t think of a better place to celebrate our nation’s birthday than in the city in which our independence was born, Philadelphia! The “Wawa Welcome America Festival!” begins June 24th and runs thru July 4th.

11 days of fun are waiting in the city of brotherly love for you and your family. The party kicks off with the “Independence Day” parade thru historic Philadelphia. On Wednesday (6/27) Wawa will roll out its signature 4.5 ton “˜world’s largest hoagie’ for all to enjoy. If you think you’ve got game at making sandwiches, be sure to enter the hoagie building contest. On Friday (6/29) head on over to Penn’s Landing for the annual food lovers event the “Taste of Philadelphia’. This celebration of food runs thru Sunday July 1st. Admission is free; there are fees for food samples. The kids will love the “Super Scooper All You Can Eat Ice Cream” festival on Saturday (6/30) from 12-5p and 6-9p.

There will also be several “Go 4th and Learn” events for the kids at several of the city’s popular museums. You will also be able to enjoy family movie night at “Philly @ the Movies.” For the listing of events and movies visit www.welcomeamerica.com.

Follow up all that good food and fun with some fabulous music. The festival wraps up with its signature concert on July 4th from 5p-11pm. BMWK favorites and Philly natives “The Roots” return for another unforgettable performance during “Philly’s Fourth of July Jam & Grand Finale Fireworks” event. Joining “The Roots” on stage will be Queen Latifah, Darryl Hall, Joe Jonas and Common. The concert will be on Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 18th & 23rd streets. It’s our favorite kind of concert, FREE!

Immediately following the concert will be a fabulous fireworks finale at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. * Stake your spot early both the concert and the fireworks finale are sure to draw very large crowds.
