We wrap up staycation month on BMWK with a free family getaway not too far away. Celebrate our nation’s birthday in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia. Welcome America’s Celebration of Freedom continues now through July 4th with a family fun-filled birthday party on the parkway.
The largest free concert in America, the Welcome America celebration will also feature an Independence Day parade, firework shows (on the 4th), storytelling, face painting and performance art for the kids and the “˜Go 4th & Learn Science’ exhibit (limited to 300 junior scientists). Enjoy Wawa’s Hoagie Day and (try to) take a bite out of the world’s largest sandwich, a 4.5 ton giant hoagie on display at the visitor’s center. Enjoy the city’s best philly cheese steaks and sample other tasty treats during the “˜Taste of Philadelphia.’
Moms and Dads, kids will love “Philly @ the Movies” special advance screening of “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.”
The music lineup for the largest free concert in America is better than ever! Hip-hop favorites and Philly natives The Roots will be fresh off their performance at the Montreal Jazz Festival as they headline this years’ concert with a group performance and a special performance with the legendary R&B group Earth, Wind & Fire. Another Philly native DJ Jazzy Jeff keeps the party going with Sara Bareilles, Michael McDonald and Estelle.
A special treat for R&B fans will be the 40th anniversary tribute to super music producers Gamble & Huff’s iconic Philadelphia Int’l Records label and the music genre they perfected, “The Sound of Philadelphia.” Stick around after the concert for an amazing fireworks display celebrating our nations’ birthday.
Remember it’s all FREE! So pack up the kids and hop on I-95 and celebrate the 4th of July Philly Style!
