Travel Tuesday: Passport Day is Back!

Planning a dream vacation abroad or traveling to your company’s London office and need your passport? The State Department wants to get you started by opening select agencies this Saturday.

No need to rearrange your schedule or take off from work. On Saturday, September 17, you can apply for your passport at a Regional Passport Agency and acceptance facility near you without an appointment. Select US Post Offices are also included in this special event. Visit www.travel.state.gov to see if your local post office is participating in this event.

As of April 1, 2011 new rules for using a birth certificate as proof of US Citizenship were implemented. The complete name of the parent(s) must be listed on your certified birth certificate regardless of your age. To obtain a new/updated certified copy of your birth certificate please visit www.cdc.gov.

Make the process go even faster by completing an online passport application. Fees for passports are $110 plus a $25 execution fee (adults 16 years and older). Normal processing in generally 2-3 weeks from date of application and expedited processing is available. ¹

The Passport Card is also available for re-entry into the US from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda from land border crossing or sea ports. The Passport Card costs $55 for adults (age 16 +) and $40 for minors (under the age16). ²

Avoid the lines, arrive early and enjoy the special passport day-themed family fun events while waiting. This is a great opportunity to get your passport now.

For photo requirements and the complete list of required documents, please visit: www.travel.state.gov.
