The property, once a governor’s mansion, was discovered by the Marleys in 1976 after the assassination attempt on Bob’s life at a political rally/concert in Jamaica. It was then purchased by the family in 1982 and used as their private vacation home until 2004. During renovations, Mrs. Rita Marley decided it was too beautiful not to share with the rest of the world. Thus, the Marley Resort & Spa was officially born!
This music inspired resort is home to sixteen luxurious Caribbean themed suites, the Natural Mystic Spa, the Stir It Bar and the signature Simmer Down restaurant. The resort also has a music gallery/museum showcasing Marley’s illustrious career through personal photographs and awards.
Each suite is named after one of Marley’s popular songs. Guests can choose from the Kinky Reggae, Misty Morning, Positive Vibrations and Easy Skankin suites, to name a few. Honeymooners can celebrate their love in the Royal Rita suite, which was Mrs. Marley’s personal suite and the one she personally redesigned during the renovations. Relax like a king in the Legend suite, which features a separate living room, private balcony and the signature Marley bed.
The resorts’ exclusive Simmer Down restaurant serves authentic Jamaican cuisine prepared by the family’s personal chef, Mama Lur (Ms. Lurline Pile). Enjoy your favorite cocktail at the Stir It Up bar while a live band plays reggae favorites in the background.
