During Women’s Empowerment 2014, Tyler Perry engaged in an intimate conversation with Radio One founder, Cathy Hughes. During the conversation, Perry revealed a family secret, saying “I love my mother to death, but she lied to me.”
Perry has openly talked about his abusive childhood and says he always suspected the man who raised him was not his father because of the treatment he received from him. Perry’s mother, however, always insisted that the man was Perry’s father.
After his mother passed away, Perry and his brother had a DNA test which revealed that, indeed, the two of them did not have the same biological father. Later, Perry took a test with the man who raised him and it revealed that his childhood abuser was not his biological father.
It takes a lot of courage to reveal such intimate details about his life, but Perry seems to do it time and time again. He is now searching for the man who is his biological father.
