UCLA Gymnast Slays Floor Routine with These Favorite Hip Hop Dances

Her routine was anything but routine. By now, the very hip hop and swag-full floor routine by UCLA Bruins gymnast Sophina DeJesus has made it’s internet rounds with over 19 million Facebook views. It’s a routine that had her teammates jammin’ with her from the sidelines and the crowds cheering in the stands.

But what got them so fired up? While she slayed on her tumbles and masterfully stuck her landing, it was the dancing that has us all like “What!” We watched her “whip,” then we watched her “naenae.” And, for good measure, she even channeled her inner Cam Newton and unapologetically “dabbed” like a boss.

We think she “hit the quan” just right with her score of 9.925 which helped give her team the win for the night. Check out her amazing routine below.

DeJesus may not realize what she did, but she brought the grit of hip hop into the sacred halls of traditional gymnastics. Sure, it’s a NCAA meet, but it’s another signal that black is back by popular demand. Every time we turn on the TV, our culture is on fleek, and I, for one, am proud.

BMWK, Did you see any other hip hop dances in her routine? What are some of your favorite dances that you think would slay in a gymnastics floor routine?
