Video: Church Girls and Gangstas? New Faith Based Movie Coming Soon

After his May release from jail, Ja Rule is looking for church girls.  Well, at least on screen.  Ja Rule is starring alongside Adrienne Bailon (Cheetah Girls) in “I’m in Love with a Church Girl” set for release October 18, 2013.

I’m in Love With a Church Girl“, produced by Reverence Gospel Media, and Grammy Award winning Gospel Artist Israel Houghton, is based on a true story.  In recent years we have noticed a trend of faith-based movies hitting the big screen.  That is nothing new.  But using Ja Rule, someone not known for his faith or connection to the “church crowd,” to play the lead character, is new.

The movie does take a familiar storyline of a drug dealer trying to go straight, while fighting a past trying to keep him from doing so.  But the way out, falling in love with a church girl, and the film’s very intentional purpose to make a positive impact on people is a new twist.  While many drug dealer gone good movies are pure entertainment, this movie intends to enlighten.

Honestly, I’m not sure what I think about the movie.  I do my best to live according to my belief in Jesus, and really enjoy Christian based films like the Tyler Perry films.  But I also enjoy a nice gangsta flick, which just happen to be my favorite type of movies.

Will marrying the two make for a great movie experience?  Or will it be a bad combination and a waste of time.
