If you’re recently returning back to your natural hair or prefer to keep your hair short, you’re dealing with the same question many Butterflies with TWA’s are asking, what can I do for the winter to protect my hair?
No matter the length of hair you’ll have come wintertime; we all must adjust to harsher weather. I Big Chopped during the winter so trust me when I say I understand. I get it boo boo, you can’t just throw a flat twist style in your hair and call it a day. During my TWA stage, I did the only thing I could do; styles that were consistent and gave me a least a few days off. The reality is your hair is short so you won’t get a lengthy break from styling, but don’t let that discourage you from protecting your hair this winter. Here are my 3 Styles TWAs can do in the Winter and my pick at the best video tutorials for each.
1. Finger Coils

Butterfly Jouelzy is flexing all of her nails in our faces as she coils her hair in 3 hrs. This style got me through so much during my TWA stage. I was asked countless times during my TWA stage if I was locking. I wore Finger Coils to death and 2 resurrections.
2. Small Cold Wave Rollers (can use Flexi-Rods too)
Butterfly Sadora is so dang on cute. These cold waves were placed so strategically and I loved it. I didn’t do this style at all when I had my TWA. Told you I was too lost in finger coil land.
3. Wear a Beautiful Silk Wrap
Butterfly Fiona showed us 15 ways to truly BFly with her wrap tutorial. I wore wraps, and finger coils during my TWA statges. It got me through some hards times.
Special Note:
As the winter approaches, there is one style I want you to take off of your scope. Wash-n-Go’s. Say goodbye to this style for sure when temperatures hit damn near freezing. I know you want defined curls and I’m gonna let you finish, but it’s not worth being sick over or having dried out hair because the wind sucked up all of that water and your moisture too.
You still have options no matter what length you’re at in your natural hair journey. You don’t live in a box during any other season, so don’t let the winter months make you believe you need to fold like laundry. Live and fro flex just as you would in the warmer months.
BMWK, What styles will you be rocking during the winter? Do you plan on doing anything different now that Jack Frost will be out? Did I miss a style?
