Wait! Did Alicia Keys Just Release the Blended Family Anthem? Be Prepared to Weep, Ya’ll

Over the weekend, Alicia Keys released a beautiful song about her blended family. As you may recall, Alicia Keys formed a blended family with husband, producer Swizz Beatz’s, who had three kids before their marriage—one with ex-wife and singer-songwriter Mashonda.

Some of the lyrics include touching declarations of love for her stepchildren:

Hey I might not really be your mother
But that don’t mean that I don’t really love ya
And even though I married your father
That’s not the only reason I’m here for ya

I think you’re beautiful
I think you’re perfect
I know how hard it gets
But I swear it’s worth it, worth it

Listen to the song below.

And the message of the song was not lost on Mashonda. The singer announced her praise for the song and love for her co-parenting partners on social media.

Blended families are a beautiful thing. Yes, the transition stage for some blended families can sometimes be rough—and even ugly. But when blended families seek help and work on their bonds, it can be the greatest experience for these families. When you unite a blended family, the amount of love and care shared between all parties is powerfully amplified.

At BMWK, we are excited to see these positive stories on blended families. And we want to help more blended families see success, which is why we have released our movie Blended: The Unspoken Truth About Stepfamilies Official Trailer.
