Who Is Tired Of Natural Hair Jokes that are Directed at Kids?

It’s so tiring to hear grown people attack children and young people on social networks regarding their hair and wearing it the way it grows out of their head.  Yes, I am talking about the recent BET incident where one of the hosts of 106 and Park makes unnecessary and what I consider to be mean comments about a baby’s hair.  Yes, that baby just happened to be the child of Jay-Z and Beyonce, but does it matter?  I guess it does because the same thing happened when Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas hit the scene and heads rolled.  Instead of focusing on her raw God given talent “we” chose to focus on her hair.  I’m TIRED OF IT.

Let’s leave these children alone. Gather some self esteem and respect about yourself and examine your own self hatred the next time you open your mouth to slander a baby. Think about the long term effects of your words and jokes.  Think about Pam Oliver who in an effort to conform to the wishes of her audience wore wigs and weaves and yet she still was attacked daily on Twitter because of her choices.  I feel like she couldn’t win. Here we have the NFL’s TOP woman commentator and all we could focus on is her hair.  How wonderful would it have been for her to come out one day with her natural tresses styled proudly however she wanted.  Would we focus on her commentary or would we focus on her hair?  I think that latter would be the selection.

Stop the unnecessary hatred and meanness towards people who are excelling…

As a people we have been taught to hate ourselves.  We hate our bodies, we hate our facial features and yes we hate our hair texture.  Yes we do and yes I said it.  We show it every time we say something bad about anything about ourselves or another that is natural.  We need therapy.  We need hugs but most importantly we need to learn to love and and accept ourselves and others the way we are.  Stop the unnecessary hatred and meanness towards people who are excelling and proving every day that there is nothing that we can’t do as a people.  I tried to keep my mouth shut about this issue but I just can’t. We seriously have to do better and it has to start somewhere.  BET should be ashamed of themselves for writing and then airing those comments.  I am glad to see that they have apologized.  But I always say you wouldn’t have to apologize if you would just do right in the first place.  Can we get it together?
