Would You Vote to Put Rosa Parks on a $20 Bill?

By Lyndra Vassar

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of women gaining voting rights, a new feminist campaign, Women on 20s, wants to change the face of U.S. currency.

The campaign aims to garner enough support to convince President Obama to replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill with women who have made equal, if not substantially more, contributions to American history.

Rosa Parks, Sojourner Truth, Susan B. Anthony, Shirley Chisholm, Eleanor Roosevelt and others are among the campaign’s contenders to replace Andrew Jackson.

The campaign was Founded by Barbara Ortiz Howard and Susan Ades Stone just in time for Women’s History Month.

“We think there’s no greater gender gap than on our money,” Susan Ades Stone told Quartz. “Of our print denominations, every single one bears portraits of men, something that hasn’t changed since 1929. I like to call that, ‘Money 1.0.’ It’s time for a change.”
