10 Tips on How to Protect Your Beautiful Skin this Summer

Summer is in full swing right along with vacation season and we love it!  As your vacation grows closer and closer with each passing day you think more about all the things you have to pack.  Everyone obsesses over the right outfits, shoes and accessories along with our must have personal care items.  The one thing a lot of people forget and don’t bother about re-purchasing on vacation is…sunscreen!

Not only do we need to pack enough sunscreen for the entire family but if we forget it, we definitely need to find a store ASAP and buy some once we arrive at our destination.  We also need to learn the best ways to use sunscreen.  We have a few tips to help you use sunscreen properly and protect your most beautiful vacation asset, your fabulous healthy skin.

Here are our top vacation sunscreen/skincare tips…

  1. Use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 30+ (especially when participating in outdoor activities) daily.
  2. Stay out of the sun between the hours of 10am-4pm.  That’s the time in which the sun’s UV rays are the absolute strongest and most damaging.
  3. Dermatologists suggest that parents keep babies under the age of 6 months out of the sun as much as possible.  You can use sunscreen on babies 6 months and older.
  4. Re-apply your sunscreen every 2 hours and every time after you come out of the water.
  5. Apply a teaspoon sized amount to your face (daily-even if its cloudy) and 1 oz. to your body 30 minutes before you go out into the sun.  Remember to apply sunscreen to forgotten areas like eyelids, back of the neck, and the tops of your feet.
  6. Moms & Dads…put your sunscreen on first then take care of the kiddies.
  7. Cover-up! Wear broad brimmed hats and wrap around style sunglasses to protect your eyes.  Also wear dark or bright colors in cool fabrics like linen and cotton to help protect your skin.
  8. AVOID tanning booths and tanning beds.  Direct and frequent exposure to UV lights has been linked to melanoma (skin cancer).
  9. If you do get a sunburn,  soothe it immediately with an aloe vera based gel/lotion or real aloe vera from a plant.
  10. The easiest way to protect yourself from the sun is to chill out under a fab patio/beach umbrella or relax in the shade.

Remember that one severe sunburn as a child/baby doubles the chances of melanoma as an adult.  The best thing you can take on vacation is beautiful, healthy protected skin.

Enjoy!
