3 Ways to Beat the Marriage Winter Blues

The Christmas tree is securely stuffed in its box, the New Year’s champagne glasses are stored in the cabinet and the outdoor landscape looks bleak and dry. You have nothing to look forward to, the kids are back in school, and you are back to the daily grind of life. You may feel blah and bored. You may be wondering what you can do to beat the marriage winter blues. Well here are three things you can do to feel the heat of a spring love.

1. Start planning for Valentine’s Day. If there is a restaurant you want to try, consider making reservations, especially if you know it’s a popular spot for romantic dinners. If you don’t want to go out, make plans for a romantic night at home or even a family night of love with the kids with games and/or movies.

2. Start planning your spring break or summer vacation. Peruse vacation magazines or visit your nearest travel agency for vacation ideas. If your budget doesn’t allow for a big vacation, consider becoming a tourist in your own city. Many of us never visit tourist attractions in our own cities. Check with your tourist bureau or look on the web for free tickets and discount coupons. If you bank account allows, reserve a hotel room in your city as well.  Many hotels offer reasonable romantic weekend packages.

3.  Break your weekly routine by incorporating a date night in the middle of the week. If you don’t go out, make a special dinner at home or call in an order at a local restaurant. Make that night a time where you don’t talk about work or use electronic devices. Even if it is just a couple of hours, you will notice the increase in intimacy. If you have small kids at home you can still have some alone time. After you put them to bed, watch a movie together or if you are both into sports, watch a ballgame.

Whatever you can think of to break the monotony in your daily life will help eliminate the marriage winter blues. Before you know it, your marriage will feel like a spring romance and you won’t feel like your relationship is cold and boring.
