3 Ways to Save Your Edges for the Winter

WINTER IS AMONG US.

Now what are you going to do about your #Edges?

It’s been a long time coming since you had to worry about something so critical to your health. During the summertime you probably spent your days trying to perfect your wash-n-go. But just like the Sam Cooke song, A Change Gone Come, and it’s in the form of Jack Frost with little to no love for edges. But what can you do?

During the cooler months, we start to adorn heavier fabrics, wrap ourselves like mummies then go out into our frosty realities. Before you do, I need you to consider the little people who can’t always defend themselves. That’s right, your edges or baby hairs. These poor babies are #HoldingItDown the best way they can, but you can’t forget to do your part. You want edges? Love the ones you have now and ensure you keep them through the winter. And of course I have 3 things you can do to hold onto your edges.

1. Use Jamaican Black Castor Oil

#JBCO has been linked to the thickening and sustainment of hairs that have left us far too soon. I’ve also used regular castor oil and experienced the same baby hair come back powers so do as you feel. I’m not about to get into a debate about which one you should use.

2. Do Massages

Rub it out like you mean it, especially along the hairline hitting those edges. Massages are used to stimulate blood flow. Positive blood flow and circulation promote hair growth. Pay special attention to your edges by giving them a 2-5 min massage after you dip your fingertips into the castor oil. This is what I like to call the #EdgeTurnUp.

3. Refrain from Excessive Pulling

This is especially for the butterfly who is already experiencing breakage. Don’t continue to pull on your edges; especially if they are showing signs of stress. Unless you aspire to have no edges at all, loosen your grip on them and ensure whomever is doing your hair understands this. #KeepYaEdges #KYE

Bonus Tip:

Refrain from putting harsh fabrics on or around your hair prior to using a silk and or satin scarf as a barrier. All those winter hats are waiting to not only take out your edges but ensure your back (aka Kitchen) doesn’t look too great either. Remember this and always use your bonnet as a barrier against all things wool.

I want my edges, and I want to ensure all who follow SistersWithBeauty have their edges as well. Don’t wait until your edges are showing signs of loss to implement these 3 things into your regimen. Act now so you won’t have to cry later. In the words of Brandy, “almost doesn’t count”.

Almost had my edges

Thought they came around

Almost grew all the way back but I’m left to frown

But I failed listen to what SWB said

Now my edges are RIP…that means they dead

Ain’t enough gel in the entire world

To slick down baby hair and try to fake like they curls

Cause everybody knows…..

Almost doesn’t count

I think Brandy would approve this message!
