Magic Johnson attended the red carpet premiere of his new film, The Announcement, in Los Angeles. The film details Magic Johnson’s announcement that he was HIV positive in 1991, ending his NBA career, and his life afterward. Among those interviewed for the documentary was wife Cookie, who was pregnant at the time of his diagnosis. “It was a matter of life and death,” she said. “I had to make that choice to either help him live or do I leave him and let him die. La La Anthony says that despite rumors that husband Carmelo Anthony has a secret love child and the fact that quite a few basketball husbands are known to be unfaithful to their “basketball wives,” La La says that she doesn’t give a second thought to the rumors, nor is she worried about her baller husband straying. Actreess Salli Richardson-Whitfield is set to reprise her role for the fifth and final season of Eureka, the SyFy network’s longest running scripted series. When asked what the show meant to her Salli responded: “When I started my daughter was six months old. She’s about to turn seven. And, I now have a two-and-a-half year old son. [‘Eureka’] is part of my present, past and future.” Salli is married to actor Dondre Whitfield, best known for his role as Vanessa’s boyfriend Robert on The Cosby Show. {NY Post}
Jada Pinkett Smith is going to bat for elephants. The Baltimore native wrote an appeal this week to Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake speaking out against alleged animal abuse that the elephants endure as performers in the Ringling Bros. circus soon to arrive in the city. Jada, a long-time member of PETA, an animal rights activist group, expresses that although she is a performer by choice, the elephants have no say in the matter. PETA has been advocating for elephants to be removed from the Ringling Circus for several years. {Examiner.com}
