Gaylord National’s Ice has Arrived!
Now that Thanksgiving has been officially celebrated, the holidays are in full swing. The DC area’s Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center reigns supreme at the National Harbor. The holidays are no different. To start the holiday festivities, the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center kicked off their “Christmas on the Potomac” celebration with the debut of its new signature holiday attraction, “ICE.” Now through January 3rd, the entire family can experience a winter wonderland unlike anything you have ever seen on the east coast.
“Gaylord National’s ICE,” the centerpiece of the “Christmas on the Potomac” holiday extravaganza is an indoor winter wonderland carved from two million pounds of pure ice. Artists from Harbin, China took 40 days to create this handmade work of art. The breathtaking attraction consists of ten winter scenes including a nativity scene, angels, full sized ice horse and sleigh, and a river of ice. Other unbelievable scenes include Santa’s Toyland, and the North Pole complete with dancing penguins. The most popular scene will undoubtedly be the “˜Christmas Castle’ scene which consists of thrilling ice slides (the tallest of which is two stories high) designed for kids of all ages. Parkas are provided so that you can withstand the nine degree temperature inside the attraction.
During the “Christmas on the Potomac” celebration, guests can also visit the new skating rink and witness the “˜Nightly Tree Lighting’ every night at 6pm. You won’t want to miss the spectacular “Voices of Gaylord National Christmas Show.” This 75 voice choir performs wonderful renditions of Christmas classics, Friday-Sunday at 7pm (now through December 20th).
