Go Back to Basics & Revamp Your Wardrobe for 2015

Can you smell that? It is the scent of new beginnings, fresh starts, and renewed possibilities, also known as, the New Year. Welcome to 2015!

With the turn of the clock, we have all stepped into a brand new year and a clean slate – metaphorically, if not literally – and a new start requires a new look, right?! Coco Chanel once said, “A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life,” and I think that applies to the entire person from head to toe.

Surprisingly, the best way to begin a wardrobe revamp is to go back to basics. Closets should never be filled with just current trends, or risk looking dated a few years down the line. Instead, dedicate a large portion to investing in the classics, then layer in the new. Let a basic white button down be the canvas for the necklace of the year, or match your next trendy top with a simple pencil skirt. Once you are set with the investment pieces, you can swim in the statement making styles that will make eyes pop.

One big tip when purchasing classics, don’t be afraid to drop a little more cash. Higher end clothing will take a bite out of your wallet, but the craftsmanship and materials used ensure they will not wear out. With proper care and minor maintenance, those pieces will be with you for 10 years, if not longer. I know a woman who has been wearing the same black Chanel suit for over 20 years…just saying.

Tailored Suit
A tailored suit in a neutral shade is a must for all wardrobes. A great suit can also be worn as separates giving you multiple looks from one purchase.

Black Pencil Skirt
In my opinion, nothing makes a woman feel like a woman like a good pencil skirt. They hug you in the perfect spots, elongate the legs, and just look so sexy.

Bag
A luxurious bag is a woman’s best friend. If you are going to splurge, I must insist you pick a neutral, black or camel, so you can get as much bang for buck as possible. Check with your retailer for warranties and repair plans, some, like COACH, offer free repairs.

White Button Down
You can’t get more classic than a white button down blouse. Dressed down with denim, or dressed up with a satin maxi skirt, it is a can’t miss option for a wardrobe refresher.

Little Black Dress
I know people say you should have one special LBD, but I say have one to fit your every mood. But to start, find one that makes you feel all types of beautiful the second you put it on.

Black High Heels
They do not have to be stilettos, but they should be heels. Stick with simple pumps, not strappy sandals, or open toes of any kind, in a height that works for you and can go from day to night.

Boots
Knee high boots are a no brainer for those living North of the Mason Dixon Line, but all women should have a comfortable pair. I recommend knee highs because they flatter any height. Brown or black, heels or flats, it is up to you.

Cashmere Sweater
Wearing cashmere is like wearing baby bunnies and kittens. The fiber is also known for its warmth, so it is pretty much a gift from the gods. Pick a cable knit option in your favorite color.

BMWK, do you have these staples in your closet?
